Bill Trunk has 14-years of experience at the American Red Cross in Washington, DC. His current position is a Finance Director supporting the Biomedical business unit of the American Red Cross. Prior to joining the American Red Cross, Bill was a business and community development Volunteer with the Peace Corps in Albania from 2007-2009. Bill joined the Peace Corps after a 17-year finance career at 3M Company while located in St. Paul, Minnesota; Austin, Texas; Bangalore, India; and Atlanta, Georgia. He has an MBA in Finance from Indiana University.
As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Albania, he co-developed and co-taught “How to Start a Business” course to economic students at the Elbasan University, conducted a Training of Trainers session for five different Albanian organizations to enable them to provide the course throughout Albania, and then coached a microcredit organization (Opportunity Albania) as they provided the training to their small business clients. He also implemented a USAID grant to expand the book collection at the new community library. In addition, he advised a program manager at Terre des homes on program and reporting activities related to an anti-begging campaign and child protection services throughout Albania.
Bill has extensive volunteer experience of more than 30 years. He previously volunteered for numerous organizations that focused on foster youth, youth development, civil rights, refugees, and people living with AIDS. In addition, Bill has served on the Board of Directors for four different non-profit organizations focused on international development, the elderly, transitional housing for the unhoused and formerly incarcerated individuals, and education services for women living in an inner city. One of his previous Board of Directors’ experiences was the co-founder of Friends of Albania and serving on its Board from 2009-2015 including serving as President from 2012-2015. Bill took on the role as President at a critical time for Friends of Albania after the organization received its 501(c)(3) certification and the specific roles of the Board Member were developed. Similar to other nonprofit organizations with other Peace Corps countries, Friends of Albania focuses on continuing the friendship between Albania and the US after serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
Bill is very passionate about the mission of Elevated Up and Out due to his past Peace Corps Volunteer and youth development volunteer experience plus his enthusiasm for travel outside the US. He has traveled to over 50 countries and his next adventure will be to Antarctica.
