Dr. Michael Norton currently works as a Data Analyst for the World Bank's Digital Agriculture, Data, and Innovation (DADI) team in Washington, DC. As part of this team, he helps to bring the agricultural sector into the digital world by connecting technological experts on technologies like satellite remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and database management. Promoting the use of digital technology within the agricultural sector will help improve food security around the world, and lead to better outcomes in which less resources are used to produce more food, more reliably, with less hidden costs (like greenhouse gas pollution.)
Prior to joining the World Bank, Michael worked for several organizations, including Columbia University's Earth Institute, Praedictus Climate Solutions, and the Chesapeake Conservancy's Conservation Innovation Center. Michael has a PhD in Geography from UC Davis, MS degrees in Applied & Agricultural Economics from Cornell University and UC Davis, and a BS in Information Systems from Carnegie Mellon University.
Michael is excited to help enable disadvantaged young people explore the world, similar to his transformative experience as math and science teacher in Peace Corps/Malawi from 2002-04. In his spare time, Michael is an avid geocacher and baseball enthusiast.
